Paul Ryan will not seek reelection. Wow... I thought Trump’s election signaled the end of the Republican Party, but... wow.

He’s just looking for more time to kick puppies and steam candy from children. Good for him for pursuing his dreams.

Paul Ryan did the job he was hired to do, namely pass tax legislation favorable to the sort of people that attend GOP fundraisers. He has nothing left to do, and will retire to live off his wife’s family’s fortune and speaking engagements for the aforementioned fundraiser attendees.

He was hired by Clinton 2020. He knows how to find Wisconsin.

Don’t forget the pension he’ll have earned by the end of the year! He can start cashing that in in 2020.

One less Randian hypocrite with access to an unearned family fortune, too bad there are a dozen waiting to fill his shoes.
I’m sure he will reject his congressional perks and gifts in retirement, as these brave patriotic small-government heroes hate handouts. Fintail shrugged.

And a book deal, of course. The speaking fees thing is insane... Obama’s is $400k a pop!
So, they’re rich but not filthy rich: “when Janna Ryan’s mother died in 2010, she inherited a trust fund worth between $1 million and $5 million”
Looks like mom & dad were both lawyers - good way to make some bank:
“Their late mother, Prudence, went to Wellesley and graduated first in the 1968 University of Oklahoma law school class that included her husband, Dan.
Besides practicing law, Prudence Little was involved in a range of civic activities in Madill. She was among the first members of the Oklahoma Ethics Commission and was chairman of the OU Foundation.
“Pru was a fantastic lady and a great lawyer,” Brewster said.
Dan Little has served on the OU Board of Regents and is now chairman of the board of trustees for the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics.”

He’s not going to command Obama’s speaking fee. Obama’s should be at least seven figures anyway.
...chairman of the board of trustees for the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics
He hails from a family of nerds...send them all to Gitmo

No shit...? Ugh.

If he lives until he’s 90, that $5.6 million. Ridiculous.

He’s retiring so he can spend more time with Messrs. Jackson, Grant, and Franklin. Not necessarily in that order ...

I can see why he’d want out. He’s young enough that he wanted to do something with government, to lead in the direction he thinks things should go. To make a difference. Instead, he’s bogged down in all this shit and largely neutered by his own party’s divisions and a president who undermines him. I imagine it’s the same kind of thing that made Evan Bayh say “fuck this shit” and bail when everyone thought he was up and coming.

I mean, he really didn’t want the Speaker job in the first place.
Will be interesting to see if he’s actually done with politics, or if he circles back for a shot at the White House.

He’s got lots of time to think about that, but he would have to get back in the public eye somehow to have a shot. Who knows what’s in his mind, but if I was tired of the garbage of being speaker, no way would I want the shit storm of the Oval Office.

He got his massive tax cut for himself and all of his donors, so what more can he do?
Mic drop.

But I put “mike” drop first and I was afraid someone might see it and didn’t think I caught the mistake.
